Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ)

Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) is a public university established in 1975. The institution conducts educational and research activities in the city of Bursa, located in the southern part of Türkiye’s Marmara Region. The university’s academic foundations are rooted in the Bursa Faculty of Medicine, established in 1970 as a unit of Istanbul University, and the Bursa Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, which began operations in 1974.

History

The university was officially established by Law No. 1873, published in the Official Gazette dated 11 April 1975 and numbered 15205, under the name “Bursa University.” On 20 July 1982, by Decree-Law No. 41, which came into effect on that date, the institution was renamed “Uludağ University.” By Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette dated 18 May 2018 and numbered 30425, the university’s name was changed to “Bursa Uludağ University.”

Campuses

Bursa Uludağ University provides services across various campuses spread throughout the center and districts of Bursa. The main campus, Görükle Campus, is located in the Nilüfer district and houses the majority of the faculties including Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences.^【1】

A total of 60,143 students are enrolled at Bursa Uludağ University.^【2】 Student admissions are conducted through centralized examinations organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Student Life

Within the Görükle Campus, there are dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) as well as university-affiliated housing units. The campus hosts the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Central Library, the Mediko-Social Center providing healthcare services to students, and dining halls. Students can participate in cultural, artistic and sporting activities through organizations under the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports, and utilize both open and indoor sports facilities on campus.

Undergraduate Programs

The Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine and Law provide foundational professional education. The Faculty of Engineering includes departments in Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Textile Engineering.

The Faculty of Education offers programs in German Language Teaching, French Language Teaching, English Language Teaching, Computer Education, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Preschool Education, Special Education, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Classroom Teaching, Social Studies Education and Turkish Language Teaching.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences includes departments in Archaeology, Biology, Geography, Philosophy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Psychology, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature. The Faculty of Agriculture comprises departments in Horticultural Crops, Plant Protection, Biosystems, Food Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Agricultural Economics, Field Crops, Soil Science and Animal Science.

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and Nursing. Additionally, undergraduate programs in Architecture and Theology are also available.

International Activities

Bursa Uludağ University participates in international exchange programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana and Farabi as part of its internationalization strategy. Through these programs, student and academic staff mobility is facilitated, and bilateral cooperation agreements are maintained with universities across Europe and other countries worldwide.

Awards and Achievements

• BTSO Award for Contributions to the Economy: The university received an award from the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) at an award ceremony for its contributions in the field of Arbitration and Mediation. This recognition was granted in acknowledgment of educational initiatives and support provided for training arbitration arbitrators aimed at resolving disputes in the business sector.^【3】

• Accessible University Protocol: Under the “Accessible University” protocol signed with the Türkiye Beyazay Association, educational and career planning initiatives are carried out for individuals with physical, cognitive and emotional differences.^【4】

• CWUR World Ranking Achievement: According to the 2025 data from the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), the university ranked 1481st among 21,462 institutions globally and entered the top 7%. Within Türkiye, it is ranked 25th.^【5】

• Academic Performance Growth: According to data from the university’s Research and Development Coordination Office, indicators of academic performance have improved. As of 2024, the number of publications in Q1 (first quartile) journals reached 951, with measurable increases observed in the number of projects and funding secured.^【6】

• TEKNOFEST Awards: At the TEKNOFEST aviation, space and technology festival finals held in Adana, university teams won awards in five categories. The “Fusion” team secured first place in the Biotechnology Innovation for Rare Diseases category, and the “Connect IT” team won first place in the Smart WiFi category. Additional placements were achieved in the Biotechnology Innovation, Model Satellite and Artificial Intelligence in Transportation categories.^【7】

• THE Subject Rankings: In the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 subject rankings, the university ranked 613th in Education Sciences and 815th in Medical and Health Sciences, placing it within the top 1000 universities worldwide.^【8】
