Duabey Onur Öztürkmen (born 1998, Üsküdar, Istanbul, GATA Hospital) was a Turkish military officer. His father’s name is Derde and his mother’s name is Gülcan. He had one sibling, his brother Fatih Mehmet. After completing primary and secondary education, he graduated from Ziya Kalkavan Anatolian Maritime Vocational High School. He is officially registered in the population of Nizip district, Gaziantep.

After graduating from Ziya Kalkavan Anatolian Maritime Vocational High School in 2016 with a degree in Ship Machinery, he was accepted into the Turkish Military Academy. Duabey Onur Öztürkmen successfully completed his studies at the academy and graduated in 2021. His battalion was named Anafartalar.

On 25 November 2022, he was martyred as a result of hostile fire from separatist terrorists during Operation Claw-Lock.

Following his martyrdom, the Ministry of National Defense shared his last will on its social media account. Duabey Onur Öztürkmen’s last will reads as follows:

"If I die young, I have two or three friends whom I love more than my own life. Do not leave me alone that night. My rights are forgiven by everyone except one person. Give all my clothing to the poor. I know what poverty is. Tell my mother later—she cannot bear this news. I had a youth I never lived fully; I never truly laughed."^【1】

The funeral ceremony for Infantry Lieutenant Duabey Onur Öztürkmen, who lost his life while serving in Operation Claw-Lock, was held in Nizip district of Gaziantep, his hometown. The ceremony took place in the rural neighborhood of Dazhöyük, under the jurisdiction of Nizip. His body, wrapped in the Turkish flag, was carried on the shoulders of military personnel to the ceremony site and placed on a prepared catafalque. His only brother, Fatih Mehmet Öztürkmen, participated in the ceremony wearing his brother’s military coat. Öztürkmen also removed his brother’s ceremonial sword and placed it atop the coffin. After the funeral prayer led by the District Mufti Hüseyin Hazırlar, Öztürkmen’s body was buried in the local cemetery.^【2】

In addition to the deceased’s family and close relatives, representatives of central and local administrations, military and judicial authorities attended the funeral. Among the attendees were Deputy Minister of Health Tolga Tolunay, Governor of Gaziantep Davut Gül, Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Fatma Şahin, Commander of the 5th Armored Brigade Major General Hacı Halil Osma, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Republic İsmail Karataş, Rector of the National Defense University Professor Dr. Erhan Afyoncu, members of parliament from various political parties, and other dignitaries.^【3】

Commemorative programs have been organized in subsequent years in honor of Duabey Onur Öztürkmen. On the 40th day after his martyrdom in 2023, a Mevlid-i Şerif ceremony was held at Üsküdar Valide-i Atik Camii, attended by Üsküdar District Governor Adem Yazıcı.

Additionally, the Nizip District Governor’s Office held a commemorative ceremony at his grave on the anniversary of his martyrdom, attended by District Governor Osman Uğurlu.

Since his martyrdom, Duabey Onur Öztürkmen’s name has been honored by numerous institutions. A newly constructed mosque in the Tekstilkent neighborhood of Gaziantep’s Şahinbey district has been named after him. The library of Abdulhamit Han Girls’ Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Nizip, Gaziantep, has also been named in his honor. Furthermore, a classroom at Türkan Mustafa Bozar Kindergarten in Nizip, Gaziantep, and a social facility have been named after him.
