
Emre Belözoğlu, born on 7 May 1980 in Istanbul, is a Turkish football player and manager who played for various clubs in Türkiye and Europe during his professional career. He played as a midfielder and has transitioned into management after retiring from playing.

Emre began his football development at Galatasaray, receiving training and education in the club’s youth teams from an early age. Details regarding his formal education are limited, as he entered professional football at a young age and his academic path was largely oriented toward sports. During his youth development, emphasis was placed on technical and tactical growth.
Emre began his professional football career at Galatasaray in 1996. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Cup in 2000. During this period, he won the Süper Lig and Turkish Cup titles. His performances at Galatasaray, despite his young age, earned him recognition as one of the team’s key players.
In 2001, Emre transferred to English Premier League club Newcastle United, where he played during the 2001–2002 season. His adaptation to the Premier League was brief, and he returned to Türkiye the following season.
Emre joined Fenerbahçe in 2002 and wore the club’s jersey for approximately 11 years across multiple stints. He won numerous Süper Lig titles, Turkish Cups and Turkish Super Cups with Fenerbahçe. He served as team captain and played a central role in the team’s midfield organization. Between 2005 and 2008, he played for Inter Milan in Italy’s Serie A before returning to Fenerbahçe.
Emre played three seasons for Italian Serie A club Inter Milan, competing in top-tier competitions including Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.
After the final phase of his Fenerbahçe career, Emre transferred to İstanbul Başakşehir in 2019. He won the Süper Lig title while playing for Başakşehir.
Emre Belözoğlu had a long career with the Türkiye national football team. He made his debut in 1998 and represented the national team until 2020. He was part of the squad that finished third at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and also played in the 2008 UEFA European Championship, where Türkiye reached the semifinals. He earned 101 official caps for the national team.
After retiring from playing, Emre began his managerial career in 2020. He was appointed manager of Fenerbahçe that same year. He later managed İstanbul Başakşehir and, as of 2023, Antalyaspor. Belözoğlu left Antalyaspor in 2025. As a manager, he focuses on team leadership, tactical planning and the development of young players.
As a midfielder, Emre Belözoğlu is known for his vision, passing ability and ball control. He contributed both defensively and offensively, and his performance in free kicks was particularly notable. His playmaking skills, tactical understanding and leadership on the pitch were defining features throughout his career.
