The origins of the series date back to 1992 with the release of Championship Manager. This game was developed by Sports Interactive and published under that name until 2004. In 2004, Sports Interactive parted ways with publisher Eidos Interactive and partnered with new publisher SEGA, renaming the game Football Manager.
