Don’t Look Up, originally titled Don’t Look Up, is a 2021 American film directed by Adam McKay, which explores humanity’s response to the threat of a massive comet colliding with Earth. The film dramatizes the efforts of scientists to alert the public to the impending disaster and the societal reactions to it, blending dark humor with poignant commentary.

Plot

Astronomy graduate student Kate Dibiasky and her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy, discover a massive comet in the solar system on a collision course with Earth. This discovery compels them to fight for media attention and public awareness to warn humanity of the looming catastrophe. However, government officials and much of the public either ignore the threat or fail to take it seriously due to political and personal interests.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards recognized the film with a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and several actors received individual nominations for their performances. Adam McKay and David Sirota won the Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award for Best Original Screenplay.
