Pardus
Have you ever wondered how the programs on your computer work? Games, word processors, or the internet—there is an invisible “manager” that runs them all. This is called the operating system.
Pardus is a free and open source operating system developed in Türkiye.
💻 What is Pardus?
Pardus is the fundamental software that acts as a bridge between the computer and the user. It is the system that understands and executes the commands you give to your computer.
Pardus is an operating system belonging to the Linux family. This means it has a secure, fast, and flexible structure. Its most important feature is that it is open source, meaning anyone can examine how Pardus works and contribute to its development.
📅 When and Who Developed It?
The Pardus project was launched in 2003 by TÜBİTAK with the goal of creating an operating system developed in Türkiye.
The first version, Pardus 1.0, was released on 27 December 2005. Over time, the project evolved and grew with support from various institutions. Today, Pardus is a modern system that is continuously updated and improved.
🛠️ What Can Pardus Do?
With Pardus, you can do many things on your computer:
- Write texts and prepare assignments
- Draw images and create designs
- Conduct research on the internet
- Learn programming and develop your own applications
🏛️ Where Is It Used?
Pardus is used in many different places in Türkiye:
- In schools and educational institutions
- In government agencies
- In municipalities
- In disaster and emergency response operations
This provides a secure and cost-effective solution.
🔓 What Does Open Source Mean?
Open source means that the internal structure of a software is open to everyone.
You can compare this to a recipe:
A closed source program is like a dish whose recipe you do not know—you can only use it. But with an open source program, the recipe is right in front of you. You can examine it, modify it, or even improve it!
Pardus is such a system. That is why people from different parts of the world can contribute to this project.
