Alakır Dam

Alakır Dam is a concrete gravity structure built on the Alakır Creek in the Kumluca district of Antalya province, in Türkiye’s Mediterranean Region. Commissioned in 1973, dam, it serves both irrigation and flood control purposes.

• Location: 13 km north of Kumluca, Antalya.
• Height: 44 metres above the riverbed.
• Type: Rockfill embankment.
• Storage Capacity: Approximately 80 million cubic metres.
• Irrigation Area: Provides irrigation services to 3,262 hectares of agricultural land.

Functions

1. Irrigation: Constructed to meet the water needs of agricultural areas in the region, it supports farming production in the Finike-Kumluca area.
2. Flood Control: Plays a significant role in reducing flood risks caused by heavy rainfall, particularly during spring months.
3. Energy Production: The Alakır Hydropower Plant (HES), fed by the dam, has an installed capacity of 2.06 MW and generates 14.06 GWh of electricity annually.
