Ali İsmail Türemen was born in Istanbul on 1 May 1942 and began his artistic career as a teaching staff member at the Istanbul State Academy of Applied Fine Arts after graduating from the same institution in 1968. He was appointed professor in 1987 and made significant contributions to the field of art education.
Throughout his artistic career, he was one of the founding members of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Eskişehir Anadolu University, where he taught ceramics, surface design and foundational art education. He also served as a faculty member at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University and mentored numerous students.
Ali İsmail Türemen’s art is shaped by themes of freedom, tranquility and intellectual depth. In his work, the colour “blue” is prominently featured. For Türemen, blue is not merely a colour but a mode of thought. Blue figures in his paintings take on an identity and become metaphors questioning humanity’s place in the universe.
From the mid-1970s onward, the “blue figure” became a defining element in his paintings and gradually evolved into one of the foundational pillars of his artistic language. These figures are voluminous, powerful and imbued with inner journeys. In his works, gilded lines and abstract forms occasionally pierce through these figures. Nearly all his paintings contain an inner world that balances emotion and thought, drawing the viewer into its depths.
