Ali Tutal was an artist known for his character acting and voiceover work throughout a career spanning from the 1970s to the 2020s in Turkish cinema and television. He carved out a unique place in cinema through his portrayals of characters reflecting Anatolian culture and his mastery of regional accents. Over the course of his career, he appeared in more than 50 films and over 20 television series.

Ali Tutal was born on 1 January 1950 in Diyarbakır. After completing his primary and secondary education, he enrolled in the Faculty of Business Administration (Political Economy) and graduated from there. Following his education, he worked for a time in advertising. His interest in cinema took on a professional dimension in the mid-1970s.
Tutal’s cinematic career began in 1976 with the film İzin, written by Yılmaz Güney and directed by Erden Kıral. With this film, he stepped onto the set and was trained within the production discipline of Yeşilçam. From the early years of his career, he participated in numerous projects both as an actor and as a technical supporter.

A member of the Cinema Workers Union (ÇASOD), Tutal took on various roles not only in front of the camera but also behind it. He emerged as a prominent figure who valued the master-apprentice relationship in cinema and provided consultation in the construction of regional characters.
One of the most prominent areas of expertise in Tutal’s career was voiceover supervision for films featuring Eastern Turkish accents. His role as supervisor during the dubbing process of the film Yol, one of Turkish cinema’s most critical works in this regard, was regarded as evidence of his professional competence. His knowledge of regional dialects was used to enhance the authenticity of characters.

In his acting style, he was primarily recognized as a character actor. His portrayals in projects such as Mahsun Kırmızıgül’s Güneşi Gördüm and Sermiyan Midyat’s Hükümet Kadın during the 2000s helped him gain widespread recognition. However, his most significant impact in popular culture came through his portrayal of the character Ali Ekber Elagöz in the television series Geniş Aile.
In the final years of his life, Ali Tutal struggled with various health issues and suffered a heart attack in recent years. On 27 January 2026, he was hospitalized after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at home. Following a month-long treatment in the intensive care unit, he passed away on 22 February 2026 in Istanbul at the age of 76.
