Anora (Film)

Directed by Sean Baker and released in 2024, Anora is a romantic comedy film. Film was nominated in six categories at the 97th Academy Awards and won five of them. It has also generated global box office revenue of 40 million dollars.

Plot

The film’s protagonist Anora is a young woman working at a nightclub in Brooklyn. One night she meets Ivan, the son of a Russian oligarch. Following a developing interaction, Ivan proposes marriage to Anora, who accepts and marries him in Nevada. However, when news of the marriage reaches Ivan’s family, they are deeply unsettled. Ivan’s father travels to America to intervene and confront Anora. The family ultimately decides to initiate divorce proceedings.

Awards Won

• At the 97th Academy Awards, Anora won Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay.
• Anora won the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
