Ariel Nomad 2

The Ariel Nomad 2 is the second-generation off-road performance vehicle introduced in 2024 by the British manufacturer Ariel Motor Company. This new generation of the Nomad series has been completely redesigned with a new chassis suspension system engine and digital architecture while retaining the core concept of its predecessor. The model is described as a "road-legal rally car" and brings Ariel’s core engineering values of lightness durability and agility to off-road performance.

The Nomad 2 features a completely reengineered tubular steel chassis. The new structure provides over a 60 percent increase in torsional rigidity compared to the previous model. The suspension geometry has been updated with a wider track and increased wheel travel enabling the vehicle to deliver high levels of balance and comfort on both asphalt and off-road surfaces.

The body panels are manufactured from durable polymer materials while the interior includes a new digital instrument cluster a multi-stage drive mode selector and an improved seat configuration. The Nomad 2 combines the functionality of a race car with the ruggedness of an off-road vehicle.

• The Nomad 2 is powered by a 2.3 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine sourced from the Ford Focus ST. This engine offers power outputs of 260 280 and 305 horsepower depending on three different ECU settings. Maximum torque reaches up to 518 Nm.
• A six-speed manual transmission is standard; however an optional sequential gearbox is available. The vehicle weighs approximately 715 kilograms a figure that delivers performance comparable to the lightweight Ariel Atom.
• The Nomad 2 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of approximately 216 km/h. The suspension system is supported by Bilstein or Öhlins dampers. The steering system is not power-assisted ensuring direct mechanical feedback between driver and road.

Another defining aspect of the Nomad 2 is its mechanical simplicity which directly connects the driver to the road and terrain. The lightweight body balanced weight distribution and high torque enable precise responses on both dirt and asphalt surfaces.

When combined with high suspension travel and wide approach and departure angles the Nomad 2 remains stable under demanding off-road conditions. During driving the engine noise steering response and road feel deliver a fully analog experience to the driver.

The cabin of the Nomad 2 is minimal and functional. It is equipped with a digital TFT instrument display a multi-mode drive selector and a three-stage traction control system. The seats are constructed from lightweight carbon fiber and are supplied with four-point harness seatbelts.

Optional additions include a roll cage LED light bar beadlock wheels rally-spec tires and a telemetry data logger. Interior ergonomics are kept simple with equipment placement optimized to maintain a low center of gravity.

The Nomad 2 is hand-built at Ariel’s facilities in Somerset England. Each vehicle is custom-configured according to the customer’s intended use rally track road or mountain.

The company plans to introduce a higher-performance track-focused variant called the Nomad 2R in the future.

The Ariel Nomad 2 embodies a philosophy entirely distinct from conventional SUVs and off-road vehicles. This model prioritizes pure mechanical driving experience over comfort or luxury. It aims to offer a simple yet compelling alternative to today’s automotive landscape dominated by electronic systems. The Nomad 2 is regarded as one of the strongest contemporary representatives of the "off-road supercar" concept.
