Beyazsu

Beyazsu is a natural water source located within the boundaries of Nusaybin district in Mardin province in southeastern Türkiye. Known locally as "Çağ Çağ Suyu", this spring functions as an important water source and cooling area especially during the summer months. Beyazsu features surface flow systems shaped by the region’s limestone terrain, with its water originating from snowmelt flowing down from higher elevations.

Beyazsu is fed by mountainous areas that form an extension of the Southeastern Taurus Mountains. The spring water emerges at the surface through underground cavities formed by limestone and other carbonate rocks. In this regard, Beyazsu can be classified as a karstic spring. Although its flow rate decreases notably during the summer months, the water continues to flow throughout the year. The water is characterized by low temperature and high clarity, conditions attributed to its origin in high-altitude snow-covered areas.

The Beyazsu Valley offers a remarkable natural environment distinguished by its vegetation cover, microclimatic conditions, and faunal diversity. Despite the region’s hot climate, the presence of water within the valley creates a cooler microclimate. Various tree species, shrubs, and aquatic plants are distributed along the valley. Additionally, the local population utilizes the water for agricultural irrigation and domestic drinking purposes.

The Beyazsu area does not hold any official conservation status but is recognized locally as a natural site. In recent years, particularly during the summer, the valley has been increasingly used by the local population for recreation and picnics, leading to certain environmental concerns regarding the sustainability of the water source. Interventions in the area surrounding the spring have the potential to disrupt both hydrological balance and natural ecosystems. In this context, planned and controlled use of the region is essential.
