Bolaman Castle

Bolaman Castle is located in the Bolaman Neighborhood of the Fatsa District in Ordu Province, within Türkiye’s Black Sea Region. The castle was constructed on a promontory gently extending toward the sea. The structure is situated along the Ordu-Samsun highway, approximately 30 kilometers from the city center of Ordu and about 4 kilometers from the district center of Fatsa.

Structural Features

Bolaman Castle consists of two sections: an inner castle and an outer castle, both constructed for surveillance and garrison functions. The inner castle is located at the western end of the structure and features high curtain walls. These walls were built using the rubble masonry technique with cut stone and fieldstone materials. Within the inner castle there is a small chapel with a basilica plan.

Hazinedaroğlu Mansion

A wooden mansion built atop the inner castle in the 18th century is also known as the Kademoğlu Mansion. This structure features a double-gabled design and is regarded as one of the representative examples of civil architecture in the region. The wooden mansion was constructed in integrated harmony with the inner castle structure. The building has been restored in accordance with its original form by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Bolaman Kalesi (Ordu Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism)

Interior Spaces

The castle complex contains three mansions and one church. These structures indicate that the castle served a multifunctional purpose. The church within the complex follows a basilica plan and is positioned as a religious building.

Access to Bolaman Castle is provided via the Ordu-Samsun highway. The distance between Fatsa District and Bolaman Neighborhood is approximately 4 kilometers, while the distance between Ordu city center and Bolaman is approximately 30 kilometers. The structure is situated along the coastline, commanding a strategic view over the sea.

Tourism and Conservation Status

Bolaman Castle is one of the historical sites visited under the scope of cultural tourism. The castle and the mansion built upon it have been placed under protection and restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As a result, the structure has been preserved to the present day while maintaining its architectural uniqueness.
