Collagen

The term was adopted into our language from the French word collagène, meaning "protein that produces gelatin". This word is a compound formed by combining the Ancient Greek word kólla (κόλλα), meaning "glue" or "adhesive", with genḗs, genēt- (γενής, γενητ-), meaning "born" or "producing".
