Desire

İştiyak has entered Turkish from the Arabic word ištīāq (اشتياق), derived from the root sh-w-q (شوق). In Arabic, this word is the māṣdar form of the fiʿʿāl pattern of the verb shāqa, meaning “to desire” or “to long for,” and carries the sense of “intense desire and longing.”

• Sufism and Religious Texts: Employed to convey spiritual closeness, the yearning for union, and deep devotion.
