Detache is a technique where different notes are played with different bow strokes to emphasize the sound produced when stringed instruments are played. This technique, which can be seen more frequently in concerts where Viola and Violin instruments are included, is used to distinguish the differences between sounds and intonations. The need for this technique can be understood from the short horizontal line on the relevant note. This technique can be applied in different ways.

History of the Word Detache
Detache, although derived from the English word Detach, is a description meaning to separate or to divide notes. This term first appeared in historical sources towards the end of the 1600s.
How to Use the Detache Technique
- The form in which the entire bow is used is called the large detache.
- The use of the middle part of the bow and the tip is called the half bow detache.
- The use of the upper part of the middle part of the bow is called the small or mini detache.

The way of the use of the forearm area of the right or left arm is important in the application phase of this technique. The reason for this is; in order to produce a light but sharp note by applying the detache technique, the bow can be used more sharply and quickly with the force taken from the forearm part of the wrist. As the bow is used quickly, a small part of the bow is used in order to perform the detache technique properly. However, when the bow is used at a slow speed, the aim is to produce large and clear sounds by using a large part of the bow.
