Dune: Desert Planet (Original title: Dune: Part One) is a 2021 American epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve, adapted from Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel of the same name. The film covers the first half of the novel.

Plot

Dune is set in a distant future within a galactic feudal structure. At its center is the young and gifted Paul Atreides, who must travel to Arrakis, known as the most dangerous planet in the universe, to secure the future of his family and people. This planet is the sole source of "spice" (melange), the universe’s most valuable resource, which enhances human potential and enables interstellar travel.

The story begins when the Emperor orders the governance of Arrakis to be transferred to the Atreides family. However, this transfer is a trap. Malevolent forces and the rival Harkonnen house engage in conflict to seize control of this precious resource. As Paul is born into a destiny beyond his comprehension, he fights for survival in a world where only those who overcome their fears can endure.
