Erol Evgin (born 16 April 1947, Istanbul) is a Turkish pop music artist lyricist composer architect and presenter. He began his musical career at a young age and took it to a professional level with his first single released in 1969. From the 1970s onward he reached a wide audience through his stage performances radio and television programs and albums. Throughout his career he has also been active in theater cinema television presenting and painting and has given concerts both within and outside Türkiye.
Erol Evgin was born in Istanbul on 16 April 1947. After completing his secondary education at Istanbul Boys High School he graduated from the Higher Architecture Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts now known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. During his education he took painting lessons from artists such as Cemal Tollu Neşet Günal Özdemir Altan and Devrim Erbil.
After graduation he worked for a time as a teaching assistant in the Basic Education Course at the academy alongside Professor Dr. Bülent Özer. Later he co-founded a private architectural office with his wife and signed off on various projects.

In 1969 he launched his professional music career with the single “Sen” and “Eski Günler” both written and composed by himself. This debut was followed by records featuring his own lyrics and compositions radio and television programs and concerts.
During the 1970s he became known for works such as “İstemesen de” “Garip Gönlüm Olmuş Deli” “Gel de Yanma” “Şoför Mehmet” and “Efkar”. His stage performances and radio and television appearances brought him a broad audience during this period.
In 1976 he began a collaboration with lyricist Çiğdem Talu and composer Melih Kibar. Over the course of eight years they produced numerous songs including award-winning works such as “İşte Öyle Bir Şey” and “Söyle Canım” as well as “Sevdan Olmasa” “Bir de Bana Sor” “İçimdeki Fırtına” “Etme Eyleme” “Deli Divane” and “Hep Böyle Kal”. The collaboration continued until Talu’s death in 1983.

Between 1980 and 1984 he played leading roles in Haldun Dormen’s musicals “Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyası” (400 performances) and “Şen Sazın Bülbülleri” (200 performances). In cinema he starred in three musical films: “Meryem ve Oğulları” (1977) “Renkli Dünya” (1980) and “Bir İlkbahar Sabahı” (1985).
From 1992 to 1994 he hosted the Show TV competition program “Süper Aile” for 400 episodes. From 1995 to 1996 he served as both general director and presenter of “Erol Evgin Show” on TRT 1.
In the 2000s he appeared on television programs as a guest presenter or jury member. Between 2000 and 2003 he created and hosted the program “Bir Sevda Masalı” on Kanal D and Star TV. In 2009 he served as the host of “Bir Şarkısın Sen” and from 2012 to 2013 he was a jury member on “Benzemez Kimse Sana”.
Between 1977 and 2021 he released albums including “İşte Öyle Bir Şey” (1977) “Erol Evgin 79” (1979) “İbadetim” (2003) “Altın Düetler” (2016) “Altın Düetler 2” (2019) and “Sevdiklerim” (2021). In 2002 he undertook a 20-concert “Father – Son” tour with his son Murat Evgin. Starting in 2005 he performed stage works themed around “Mustafa Kemal’i Gördüm Düşümde” honoring the War of Independence. In 2005 and 2006 he released compilation albums “İşte Öyle Bir Şey” and “Tüm Bir Yaşam” featuring songs from earlier periods of his career. In 2011 he released the album “Göz Bebeğim Sen Çok Yaşa”.
In 2016 he released the album “Altın Düetler” featuring duets with artists such as Sezen Aksu Nükhet Duru Candan Erçetin Göksel Zuhal Olcay Şevval Sam Emel Sayın Sıla Hande Yener and Aşkın Nur Yengi. In 2019 he released “Altın Düetler 2” with duets featuring Ajda Pekkan Atiye Ceylan Ertem Demet Sağıroğlu Deniz Seki Farah Zeynep Abdullah Funda Arar Kalben Nil Karaibrahimgil Şebnem Keskin Zara and Ziynet Sali. In 2021 he shared the acoustic album “Sevdiklerim” with music lovers.
In 2009 the artist celebrated his 40th year in art with a special concert as part of the 20th Most Open Air Concerts. On 10 April 2019 he marked his 50th year in art with an event at the Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage.

Erol Evgin studied painting under artists such as Cemal Tollu Neşet Günal Özdemir Altan and Devrim Erbil. Between 2001 and 2006 he worked on painting at Mahir Güven Atölyesi for five years. In 2005 he held his first solo exhibition titled “Miras” featuring 60 oil paintings which was displayed in Istanbul İzmir Ürgüp and Trabzon between 2005 and 2006. He owns a collection of 250 works of Turkish painting.
In 1989 he co-founded the Popular Music Art Foundation (POPSAV) with friends from the artistic community and served as its board chair for three years. In 2005 he was elected Honorary President of POPSAV – Popular Music Art Foundation.
Erol Evgin has given concerts in nearly every region of Türkiye. He has also performed on stage in countries such as Germany Austria Switzerland France the United Kingdom the Netherlands Poland Iran and the United States. For these concerts he curated his repertoire from works spanning different periods of his career.
Throughout his artistic career he has received over 100 awards recognizing both his musical contributions and cultural impact. He speaks German and English. His wife is the senior architect Emel Evgin. Among his children are senior interior architect Elvan Evgin Sheehan and musician Murat Evgin. The family has consistently valued art and cultural activities throughout their lives.
