Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ)

Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) is a public university established in Eskişehir in 1993. Eskişehir Osmangazi University was founded on 18 August 1993 by Decree-Law No. 496. Under this regulation, the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering-Architecture, and Letters-Sciences as well as the University Hospital and associated health vocational schools were separated from Anadolu University and attached to the newly established university.

Although the legal founding date of the university is 1993, the university senate has officially recognized 1970—the year the Eskişehir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture (EDMMA), from which the university’s academic roots originate, began operations—as its official founding year. The university’s name was changed to “Eskişehir Osmangazi University” by Law No. 5379 on 1 July 2005.

The university’s academic structure has expanded over the years. The Sivrihisar Vocational School was established in 1994, the Faculties of Agriculture and Theology in 1995, and the Faculty of Education in 1998. During the 2000s, the Faculties of Dentistry (2008), Art and Design (2009), Tourism (2013), Health Sciences (2016–2017), and Law (2018) began operations. In 2022, the Faculty of Letters and Sciences was replaced by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences. Most recently, in 2023, the Çifteler Vocational School was incorporated into the university’s educational units.

Eskişehir Osmangazi University conducts teaching, research, and health services across campuses located in the center of Eskişehir and various districts. The main campus, Meşelik Campus, hosts core faculties including Medicine, Engineering, Science, Economic and Administrative Sciences, Law, Theology, and Education, as well as the university hospital, central library, and social facilities. The Bademlik Campus, located near the city center, houses the Faculty of Art and Design, while the Çamlık Campus is home to the Women’s Health and Counseling Center. The Faculty of Agriculture provides education at the Ali Numan Kıraç Campus, and the Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone Campus accommodates technical education programs. In addition, the university has campuses for its vocational schools in the districts of Sivrihisar, Mahmudiye, and Çifteler.

According to current data, a total of 27,664 students are enrolled at Eskişehir Osmangazi University.^【1】 Students are placed in the university’s associate and bachelor’s degree programs based on results from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Eskişehir Osmangazi University offers undergraduate and associate degree programs through its faculties and vocational schools.

Undergraduate programs are delivered through faculties and vocational schools. Within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, programs include Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering (English), Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering (English), and Software Engineering (English), as well as Architecture. Programs offered by the Faculty of Science include Biology, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

Health-related programs are offered by the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Administration.

The Faculty of Education offers programs in Science Education, Primary Mathematics Education, English Language Teaching, Preschool Education, Special Education, Classroom Teaching, and Social Studies Education, as well as Guidance and Psychological Counseling.

The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences offers programs in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Political Science and Public Administration, and International Relations. The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences provides education in Comparative Literature, Psychology, History, and Turkish Language and Literature.

Other undergraduate programs include: Horticulture, Plant Protection, Food Engineering, Agricultural Biotechnology, Field Crops, and Animal Science at the Faculty of Agriculture; Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Art and Design; Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Management at the Faculty of Tourism; and respective departments at the Faculties of Law and Theology.

Associate degree programs are delivered through vocational high schools. Eskişehir Vocational High School offers technical programs such as CNC Programming and Operation, Environmental Protection and Control, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Aircraft Technology.

The Vocational High School of Health Services and Çifteler Vocational High School offer programs in First Aid and Emergency Response, Opticianry, Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics, Medical Documentation and Secretarial Services, Medical Imaging Techniques, Medical Laboratory Techniques, and Elderly Care.

Sivrihisar Vocational High School offers programs in Alternative Energy Sources Technology, Computer Programming, Construction Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Accounting and Tax Applications. Mahmudiye Equine Vocational High School provides education in Equine Science and Training.

The university implements exchange programs as part of its international academic collaborations. Through the Erasmus+ program, it facilitates student and staff exchanges with higher education institutions in Europe. Additionally, it has academic cooperation agreements with universities in various countries under bilateral protocols.

• Academic Performance Awards (2024): At the ceremony held in May 2025, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Şevki Bayrakdar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sadi Aksu, and Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Çolak from the field of Health and Life Sciences; Prof. Dr. Hilal Demir Kıvrak, Prof. Dr. Suat Pat, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Kılıç from the field of Science and Engineering; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydın Alber Yüce, Prof. Dr. Ferdi Çelikay, and Prof. Dr. Şerife Yücesoy Özkan from the field of Social and Human Sciences were awarded Academic Performance Awards.^【2】

• Academic Performance Awards (2023): At the ceremony held in April 2024, Prof. Dr. Ener Çağrı Dinleyici, Prof. Dr. Atilla Özcan Özdemir, and Prof. Dr. Döndü Üsküdar Cansu from the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Hakan Demiral and Prof. Dr. Melih Cemal Kuşhan from Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlyas Atalar from Agriculture; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Altınsoy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Kılıç, and Prof. Dr. Cihan Seçilmiş from Social Sciences received awards.^【3】

• TEKNOFEST Achievements: The university’s “Günaltay Rocket Team” placed third in the High Altitude Category of the TEKNOFEST 2025 Rocket Competition. In TEKNOFEST 2024, the “MakinaFleo” team won the “Most Original Design Award” with its autonomous agricultural robot MFX-1.^【4】

• Medical Research Award: The team from the Department of Pediatric Diseases and Conditions (Ebru Kaçmaz et al.) received the “Third Best Poster Presentation Award” at the 5th International Symposium on Intensive Care Infections.^【5】

• Disability-Inclusive University: The university was awarded the “Green Flag” under the Higher Education Council’s “Disability-Inclusive University Awards 2022” for accessibility initiatives undertaken by the Faculty of Education.^【6】

• TÜBİTAK Support: In 2024, seven startups supported by the university received funding under the TÜBİTAK BiGG Program, and the university was granted an award for its support.^【7】

On-campus facilities open to students include libraries, study halls, cafeterias, and snack bars. The Meşelik Campus features an indoor sports hall, swimming pool, football field, and outdoor sports areas. Student housing needs are met by dormitories affiliated with the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK), located both within and around the campus. Cultural and social activities are organized through student clubs operating under the university’s auspices.
