Faraşin Plateau

Faraşin Yaylası is a high-altitude plateau located within the boundaries of Şırnak province in southeastern Türkiye. Traditional plateau pastoralism continues in the region as the population increases during the summer months.

Geographical Location and Elevation

Faraşin Yaylası is situated near the village of Yeşilöz in the Beytüşşebap district, at an elevation of approximately 2,625 metres above sea level. This altitude allows snow cover to persist even in midsummer. The plateau is notable for its expansive flatlands, surrounding mountainous terrain, and rich vegetation.

Animal Husbandry Activities

Faraşin Yaylası holds significant importance for small livestock farming. It is reported that around 250,000 small livestock graze on the plateau with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The vast pastures provide a natural environment suitable for animal feeding throughout the summer. This area, preferred by nomadic families, functions as a center where animal husbandry is conducted using traditional methods.

Tourism and Recreation

Due to its natural beauty and cool climate, the plateau has become an attractive destination during summer months for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and campers. At this high elevation, snow cover is still visible in places even in July, and images of children sledding on snow attract attention. Activities such as camping, nature hiking, and seasonal events are carried out under the umbrella of plateau tourism.
