
Fethi Sekin (born 1973, Doğancık, Baskil, Elazığ) was a Turkish police officer. After completing his primary and middle school education in his birth village, he continued his high school studies at various schools. He entered the Samsun 19 Mayıs Police Vocational School upon choosing a career in policing and graduated in 1995. He began his professional career in Kilis. In 1999 he was assigned to Bingöl, where he served for approximately three years. In 2002 he was transferred to İzmir, where he served as a motorcycle traffic police officer and worked within the “Şahinler Timi” unit.
During his service, he was known for his professional discipline and sense of duty. He was married and a father of three children.

Fethi Sekin was recognized during his service not only for fulfilling his professional responsibilities but also for his compassionate nature and close ties with the public. On 5 January 2017, he was on duty at the C Gate of the İzmir Courthouse when a terrorist attack occurred. Two individuals affiliated with the PKK terrorist organization arrived at the courthouse in a vehicle loaded with explosives. Sekin noticed the suspicious vehicle and intervened. During the ensuing confrontation, he neutralized one attacker; however, he was fatally wounded by gunfire from the other attacker. His intervention prevented the attack from causing even greater loss of life.
Fethi Sekin was buried on 7 January 2017 in his native village of Doğancık, located in the Baskil district of Elazığ, following a funeral ceremony. The ceremony, held under rain, was attended by his family, colleagues, and numerous citizens. After his martyrdom, the street on which the İzmir Courthouse is located was renamed “Martyr Police Officer Fethi Sekin Street.” His name was given to schools, hospitals, parks, libraries, and sports facilities in various provinces of Türkiye. Additionally, various sports events and social activities were organized to honor his memory.
