Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS)

The Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) is the centralized examination system organized by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) in Türkiye to place students into higher education programs. The new system, implemented in 2017, replaced the Higher Education Transition Examination (YGS) and the Placement Examinations (LYS).

1. Basic Eligibility Test (TYT)

• Mandatory for all candidates.

• Includes tests in Turkish, Social Sciences, Basic Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

• Candidates scoring 150 or higher on the TYT may apply for associate degree programs.

• Candidates scoring 200 or higher may use their score in the following year.

2. Field Eligibility Tests (AYT)

• Applied for Numerical, Equal Weight and Verbal score types.

• Consists of the tests in Language and Literature-Social Sciences 1, Social Sciences 2, Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

• Used for placement into undergraduate programs.

3. Foreign Language Test (YDT)

• Conducted in English, German, French, Arabic and Russian.

• Comprises 80 questions.

• Required for admission to programs that accept students based on foreign language scores.

Application Process: YKS applications are accepted through ÖSYM’s official website. Late applications are possible during the late application period but incur an additional fee.

2025 YKS Fees:

• TYT: 450 TL

• AYT: 450 TL

• YDT: 450 TL

A 50 percent additional fee is applied for each session in late applications.

Exam Dates and Durations

2025 YKS Exam Dates:

• TYT: 21 June 2025

• AYT and YDT: 22 June 2025

Exam Durations:

• TYT: 165 minutes

• AYT: 180 minutes

• YDT: 120 minutes

• TYT Score: Candidates scoring above 150 may apply for associate degree programs. Candidates scoring 200 or higher may use their score in the following year.

• AYT/YDT Score: Candidates scoring at least 180 may apply for undergraduate programs.

• Special Talent Examination: Candidates who score within the top 800,000 on the TYT may apply for programs requiring special abilities.

• Candidates with Disabilities: Additional accommodations and special arrangements are provided in accordance with conditions determined by ÖSYM.

• Candidates Affected by Disasters: Specific facilitations may be provided for candidates affected by disasters in disaster zones.
