İlhan Şeşen was a lyricist, composer, musician, and actor active in the fields of music and performing arts in Türkiye. After completing his legal education, he worked briefly as a lawyer; beginning in the late 1960s, he turned his focus to music. Throughout his career, he participated in group memberships, solo albums, television and radio programs, and various series and film projects. He passed away on 26 May 2025 at the age of 76.

İlhan Şeşen was born on 18 June 1948 in Manisa. He completed his higher education in law. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, he worked for a period as a lawyer. His connection to music began in his youth; in 1968 he started singing with dance music orchestras. He released his first professional music recording, the 45 rpm single titled “Kavga,” in 1971.
In 1983, he left his legal profession and, together with his nephews Gökhan and Burhan Şeşen, founded the group “Grup Gündoğarken.” The group produced pop music in Türkiye during the 1980s and 1990s. During this period, numerous works with lyrics and music by İlhan Şeşen were presented to the public. During the group’s hiatus, he released his first solo album, “Aşk Haklı,” in 1994. Subsequently, he took on the production and hosting of a television program titled “Arka Pencere” on a private television channel.
His second solo album, “Neler Oluyor Bize,” released in 2002, featured songs with lyrics and music entirely written by him. He released his fourth solo album in 2005. In 2013, his album “Gel” was introduced to listeners. That same year, live performances were held as part of the stage project “Akustik Hikayeler,” developed in collaboration with musician Vedat Sakman. This project was released as an album in June 2020 under the Sony Music label.
In 2017, the album “İstanbullu Şarkılar” was released under the Sony Music label. One of the tracks on this album, “Ayrılmam,” was supported by a music video. In 2018, the album “Ciddi Eğlence” was released, featuring arrangements of İlhan Şeşen’s songs by Burçin Büke. Also in 2018, the tribute album “Hediyem” was released, in which various artists reinterpreted Şeşen’s compositions. The album included 14 songs by İlhan Şeşen, and some tracks were filmed as music videos.
In the 1990s, he also took on roles in television production and hosting. He served as both producer and host of the program “Arka Pencere.” Additionally, he created a radio program titled “Amcam Burada.” He appeared as an actor in the TRT 1 series “Mühürlü Güller.”
İlhan Şeşen also appeared as an actor in television series and films. He played roles in the series “Cesur Kuşku,” “Aliye,” “Annem,” “Hayatımın Rolü,” “Görüş Günü Kadınları,” “Aşk Yalanı Sever,” “Milat,” and “Paramparça.” He also appeared in cinematic and series projects such as Çalgı Çengi (2011), Saklı (2015), and Kuzgun (2019).
In 2023, İlhan Şeşen was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent prolonged hospital treatment. He passed away on 26 May 2025 at the age of 76. His death was announced to the public via social media by his family, with signatures from his wife Arzu, son Fuat, daughter Melis, and grandson Nefes.
