Kahraman Sağra Hazelnut Museum

The Kahraman Sağra Hazelnut Museum is located in the Altınordu district of Ordu Province in Türkiye’s Black Sea Region. The museum narrates the entire production process of hazelnuts—from cultivation and harvesting to processing and marketing—within their historical and cultural context. It holds the distinction of being the first museum in Türkiye dedicated to hazelnuts.

Establishment Process

The museum derives its name from Kahraman Sağra, a prominent figure in hazelnut production and industry in Ordu. The Sağra family gained recognition particularly from the 1930s onward for their activities in hazelnut processing and packaging, contributing significantly to the industrial development of the city. In this context, it was decided to convert the family’s mansion into a museum under the name of Kahraman Sağra.

Space and Architectural Features

The museum is housed within the Kahraman Sağra Mansion, believed to have been constructed in the late 19th century and representing an example of Ordu’s traditional residential architecture. This three-story mansion is situated in the Selimiye Neighborhood of Altınordu district, Ordu. The mansion’s restoration was carried out in 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the building was allocated to the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality in 2020.

The museum presents all stages of hazelnut production in a thematic manner. Visitors are introduced to the following production steps through visual and material exhibits.

While documenting the historical development and production process of hazelnuts, the museum also aims to archive the social, economic, and cultural impacts of this process.
