Kenan Sofuoğlu is one of the most successful and renowned athletes in the history of Turkish motorcycle racing. He has represented Türkiye on the international stage as a five-time world champion in the Supersport World Championship. Through these achievements, he has secured a prominent place in motorsports and has drawn attention throughout his career for his speed, discipline, and determination. He has also played an active role in the development of motorsports in Türkiye and has participated in various social and sporting initiatives.

Kenan Sofuoğlu was born on 25 July 1983 in the Akyazı district of Sakarya. The Sofuoğlu family, originally from Trabzon, is particularly known for its involvement in motorcycle racing. His father, İrfan Sofuoğlu, introduced his children to motorcycles at an early age. His brothers, Bahattin and Sinan Sofuoğlu, also competed in motorcycle racing. Bahattin Sofuoğlu died in a traffic accident in 2002, while Sinan Sofuoğlu lost his life in a crash during training at the İzmit Gulf Race Circuit in 2008. These events had a profound impact on Kenan Sofuoğlu’s personal and professional life.
Sofuoğlu spent his childhood and youth in Sakarya, where he became familiar with motorcycles at an early age and began achieving success in national competitions. Guided by his father, he dedicated himself to motorsports and developed his technical and physical skills during this period.
Kenan Sofuoğlu’s professional racing career began with national competitions in his youth. Following his successes in Türkiye, he moved to compete in Europe, where his experiences in Germany brought him international recognition. His performance in the 2003 IDM Supersport Championship marked a turning point in his career.
In 2006, he joined the Supersport World Championship full-time. In 2007, racing with the Honda team, he won his first world championship title. He repeated this success in 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016, ultimately securing a total of five world championships.
He competed in a total of 126 races, winning 43 of them and finishing on the podium 85 times. He recorded the fastest lap time in 34 races. Throughout his racing career, he rode for teams including Honda, Kawasaki, and MV Agusta.
Despite suffering a serious crash in 2015, he won the championship that same year. After another accident in 2017, he broke his right hip bone and, following medical advice, ended his racing career in 2018. He stated that this decision was made after considering his physical condition and family responsibilities.
Kenan Sofuoğlu’s racing career significantly increased interest in motorsports in Türkiye and contributed to individuals and organizations active in this field through various initiatives.

In addition to his racing career, Kenan Sofuoğlu has participated in social responsibility projects and contributed to promoting motorsports in Türkiye. Even after retiring from racing, he has continued his involvement in motorsports, collaborating with the Turkish Motorcycle Federation to implement projects for young athletes. Through racing training circuits he established in Sakarya and the support he provided, he has significantly contributed to the development of many riders.
Sofuoğlu has shared his views on social issues through various media, particularly emphasizing discipline and goal-oriented thinking in his messages to young people. He has maintained communication with a broad audience by sharing his life experiences on social media.
In 2018, he entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) as a member of parliament for Sakarya from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). During his term, he engaged in various initiatives in the fields of youth, sports, and transportation. He particularly advocated for encouraging young people to participate in sports, improving traffic safety, and strengthening the legal infrastructure for motorcycle racing.
In 2023, he announced his withdrawal from active politics. During this period, he made several assessments regarding politics and stated that he would focus on personal projects.
