Plot of the Novel

The novel begins with a character named Rasim seeking employment and meeting Raif Efendi. Raif Efendi, who has a quiet, introverted and faint personality, reveals his past through a black-bound notebook. While attending an art exhibition in Germany, Raif Efendi sees a painting titled "Fur Mantolu Madonna" and falls in love with its owner, Maria Puder. However, this love encounters various obstacles and eventually reaches a tragic end.
