Historical Development
Mitsubishi introduced one of the mass-produced electric vehicles to the market in 2009 with the i‑MiEV; in 2013, it entered the plug-in hybrid SUV segment with the Outlander PHEV model. Since 2023, it has aimed to increase the share of hybrid and electric vehicles in total sales to 50%, and it plans to discontinue internal combustion engine models by 2035.

Electric Vehicle Technology
Mitsubishi develops BEV and PHEV technologies based on the AmpR platform. Prioritizing weight reduction, efficiency, and manufacturing simplicity, the company plans to produce special BEV models for the Australian and Oceania markets in partnership with Foxconn starting in 2026. The existing hybrid infrastructure, especially in the SUV segment, is maintained.

As of the 2024 fiscal year, Mitsubishi’s total production volume was 1,010,353 units.
Production has been carried out in countries including Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the USA.
In 2024, 109,843 vehicles were sold in the USA, with notable production increases in North America and the ASEAN region.
Market Performance and International Growth
The Outlander PHEV achieved high global sales volume in 2024; the Eclipse Cross and Mirage models performed strongly in Brazil, Europe, and the USA.
In the first half of 2025, US sales increased by 5.1% to 53,753 units.
The Outlander was the best-selling model again in regional markets.
