Myanmar Army Air Strike on Mrauk-U Hospital (2025)

Myanmar Armed Forces Air Strike on Mrauk-U Hospital was an aerial bombardment carried out by the Myanmar armed forces on a state hospital in the town of Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, on 10 December 2025. The attack resulted in 33 deaths and over 70 injuries. The incident occurred in an area under the control of the Arakan Army.

The attack targeted the 300-bed state hospital in Mrauk-U, located near the border with Bangladesh. It occurred on the evening of 10 December 2025. Arakan Army spokesperson Khine Thu Kha stated that the high number of casualties was due to the direct hit on the hospital building.

The attack was conducted by a Myanmar military aircraft, which dropped two 500-pound (approximately 226 kg) bombs on the hospital structure. Following the explosions, the hospital’s roof collapsed, columns and beams were destroyed, and the facility was rendered unusable.

Thirty-three people were killed and at least 76 were injured. Of the injured, 26 were reported to be in critical condition. Among the dead were patients and healthcare workers.

The Myanmar military regime has made no official statement regarding the attack. According to Arakan Army spokesperson Khine Thu Kha, the attack was carried out by a military aircraft on Wednesday night, 10 December 2025. The spokesperson used the phrase “Mrauk-U General Hospital was completely destroyed” and stated that the high death toll resulted from the deliberate targeting of the facility.

The 300-bed hospital was reported to have been at full capacity at the time of the attack, as conflict-related disruptions had severely limited access to healthcare services in the region, forcing many patients to seek care at this facility. Aid worker Wai Hun Aung stated that the hospital was “overflowing” and that at least 31 dead and 68 injured were found after the strike.

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), a body composed of former members of Myanmar’s parliament, condemned the attack, stating that its timing served no purpose other than to “highlight the long-standing crimes committed by the military coup.”

The Myanmar military seized power on 1 February 2021, alleging electoral fraud, and detained Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior officials of the National League for Democracy (NLD), declaring a state of emergency. Since the coup, armed conflict across the country has led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.

Throughout 2025, the military intensified air operations against armed groups, conducting similar attacks not only in Rakhine State but also in Sagaing and Shan States. On 5 December 2025, an attack in Sagaing Region resulted in the deaths of 18 civilians.
