
Basketball career began in the Fenerbahçe youth system. In the 2005–06 season, he was loaned to FMV Işık Spor. In the 2006–07 season, he signed with Alpella İstanbul. In December 2007, he transferred to Fenerbahçe Ülker, where he won the 2007–08 Turkish Basketball League championship. During this period, he also played in the Turkish All-Star Games.

Throughout his NBA career, Ömer Aşık was known for his defensive prowess and rebounding, serving as a low-scoring but highly efficient center. He contributed significantly to his teams through his shot-blocking presence, box-out ability, and physical playing style. His active playing career ended in 2018 due to chronic health issues and injuries. His final contract was with the New Orleans Pelicans, which was terminated.
