Kindergarten Cop (original title: "Kindergarten Cop") is an American action-comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman. The film tells the story of a tough-minded police officer who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to catch a dangerous drug dealer.

Los Angeles Police Department’s experienced and hardened detective John Kimble is very close to apprehending Cullen Crisp, a drug baron he has been pursuing for years. Crisp’s only witness is his former wife, who fled with their young son and disappeared. Police determine that the woman and child are in Astoria, Oregon.

According to the plan, Kimble’s partner, Detective Phoebe O’Hara, will go undercover as a teacher at the child’s kindergarten to locate the mother. However, when O’Hara suddenly falls ill, Kimble is forced to take on the assignment himself. Having never been around children before, Kimble suddenly finds himself in charge of a chaotic, noisy, and undisciplined kindergarten classroom. While struggling to manage the children and adapt to the role of a teacher, he also tries to locate Crisp’s ex-wife and prepare for the danger posed by Crisp’s potential arrival in town. During this time, he begins to develop romantic feelings for his colleague, Joyce Palmer.

The film’s central theme is the “fish out of water” scenario and unexpected role reversal. It uses comedy to explore how a hardened law enforcement officer confronts the chaotic and emotional world of children. Beneath the tough exterior, the film explores themes of compassion, the importance of family, and the breaking of prejudices.
