Sarper David Mutaf was born in the Maltepe district of Istanbul on June 14, 2002. A registered citizen of the Republic of Türkiye, Mutaf represents Türkiye in both local and international organizations.
The Beginning of a Club Career
He began his basketball career with the Fenerbahçe Sports Club youth academy. During this period, he played in the U16 and U18 age groups and participated in the Euroleague Next Generation Tournament (ANGT) with the Fenerbahçe U18 squad. Following his performances in the youth academy, he was introduced to the senior team and entered the professional arena at a young age.
His Career in the Countries He Played
• Türkiye: After spending his youth academy years at Fenerbahçe, he trained at the senior team level and took part in the Turkish Basketball Super League and Turkish Youth League organizations.
• United States: He gained playing experience at the NCAA level by joining the University of Minnesota's college basketball program, where he played in regular league fixtures.
• Spain: He took responsibility for Gran Canaria club's youth and B team squads, both in league and cup matches within the Spanish League system.
• Türkiye (return) : Transferred to Bursaspor for the 2024-25 season and took part in the Turkish Basketball Super League and FIBA Europe Cup qualifiers.
National Team Career
In 2018, he participated in the FIBA U16 European Championship with the U16 national team, where he was used in rotation throughout the tournament's group and elimination matches. In 2021, he competed with the Türkiye U19 jersey at the FIBA U19 World Cup. The following season, he was a member of the 2022 FIBA U20 European Championship squad, playing in the 6th and 7th-place matches of the qualification stage.
Positions
Mutaf plays both shooting guard and small forward roles. While his playmaking responsibilities are limited, he also positions himself as an offensive shot-taker and on the wing defensively.
