T1 Kabataş - Bağcılar Tramway Line

The T1 Tramway Line, stretching 19.3 kilometers across Istanbul’s historic peninsula, is one of the city’s major rail systems, serving 31 stations and an average of 370,000 passengers daily.

The tram line was initially constructed between Aksaray and Sirkeci and began operations on 13 June 1992. It was subsequently extended toward Topkapı and Zeytinburnu: the Aksaray–Topkapı section opened on 29 December 1992, and the Topkapı–Zeytinburnu section on 10 March 1994. Later, the line reached Eminönü Station, with the Sirkeci–Eminönü segment opening on 20 April 1996. On 30 January 2005, railway tracks were laid across the Galata Bridge, enabling the tram to connect to Fındıklı.

The line’s extension did not end at Fındıklı. On 29 June 2006, the Kabataş Station opened, linking the tramway via the F1 Taksim–Kabataş Funicular Line to the M2 (Yenikapı–Hacıosman) Metro Line.

The T2 Bağcılar–Zeytinburnu Tramway Line, which entered service on 16 September 2006 and originally operated with high-floor vehicles, was rapidly converted to accommodate low-floor tram systems. Following this upgrade, the line was integrated with the T1 Line on 3 February 2011, establishing seamless rail connectivity from Bağcılar to Kabataş.
