TCG Alemdar (A-582) is a vessel designed specifically for underwater search and rescue and diving support operations within the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces. As one of Türkiye’s strategically significant maritime platforms built with national capabilities, it fulfills diverse naval operational requirements, with submarine rescue capability being its primary mission.

Design and Technical Specifications

TCG Alemdar is equipped to meet modern underwater operational needs. The vessel measures 91 meters in length, 17 meters in width, and has a displacement of approximately 4,000 tons. These dimensions enable it to conduct prolonged missions in open seas while providing an extensive operational area for diving and rescue operations.

The ship is fitted with Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles (DSRVs) and remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) to respond to emergencies aboard submarines. It also includes modern diving support systems, hyperbaric pressure chambers, and advanced life support units that facilitate safe diver operations. Thanks to these features, TCG Alemdar can perform rescue and support missions at depths of up to 600 meters.

The vessel is further equipped with advanced sonar systems for underwater operations and features a dynamic positioning system that enhances its maneuverability. This system allows the ship to maintain a fixed position, significantly improving operational safety during diving and rescue activities.

Missions and Operations

TCG Alemdar has significantly enhanced the Turkish Naval Forces’ underwater operational and rescue capabilities. The vessel is tasked with responding to accidents involving submarines, evacuating trapped personnel, and supporting diving operations. In addition to submarine rescue missions, it is also employed in various research, training, and testing activities.

TCG Alemdar actively participates in international cooperation missions under the Turkish Naval Forces and has played a key role in NATO exercises. In this context, it took part in the Dynamic Monarch-24 exercise held in Norway, demonstrating its underwater rescue capabilities. During the exercise, it conducted joint operations with submarine rescue assets from other nations and contributed to multinational submarine rescue efforts.

As the most modern submarine rescue vessel in the Turkish Naval Forces, TCG Alemdar holds strategic importance. Thanks to its advanced technical features, it is capable of meeting not only Türkiye’s but also its allies’ submarine rescue requirements.
