The Eternaut (Series)

The Eternaut is an Argentine internet series that began streaming on the digital platform Netflix as of 30 April 2025. The series explores a post-apocalyptic scenario and also incorporates themes of dystopia mystery and horror. Its Turkish title is published as Sonsuzluk Yolcusu and its Spanish title as El Eternauta. The Eternaut holds a rating of 7.6 on IMDb and is produced and directed by Bruno Stagnaro. The cast includes actors such as Ricardo Darín (lead role) Carla Peterson César Troncoso and Andrea Pietra. The first season has already released six episodes.

Narrative and Plot Structure

The series opens with a scene of three young women cruising in a private boat off the ocean coast on an ordinary summer evening. Suddenly one of the young women becomes trapped inside the enclosed cabin due to violent waves in the water while the other two are killed on deck. The series then shifts its focus to the life of the woman trapped inside the boat and her family.

Salvo and Ana members of the young woman’s family decide not to go outside after experiencing an abrupt drop in temperature a sudden snowfall during summer and the mass death of people outside who collapse on the ground. The main characters Salvo Ana Favalli Elena and Omar soon realize that the cause of the disaster is the snow’s poison-like effect. Subsequently they discover the presence of extraterrestrial entities roaming outside and their attempts to find new ways to protect themselves become another central theme of the series.

The positive reception the series received from audiences in Argentina and across South America has significantly contributed to its growing influence in Europe. The series’ success has also helped secure approval for a second season.

Elements Supporting the Narrative

While the series serves as an alternative production for viewers who enjoy dystopian themes it also presents a plot centered on teamwork trust and cooperation. The dystopian story developed by producer Bruno Stagnaro places at its core the exploration of how those who did not seek shelter in enclosed spaces managed to survive and why those left outside perished.
