The F-16 EDPOD (Electronic Support Pod) is nationally developed and tactical electronic warfare support pod integrated into F-16 fighter jets, developed by the TÜBİTAK Information and Communication Technologies Research Institute (BİLGEM). The system aims to enhance the situational awareness of air platforms against enemy radar systems and to identify and record threats. Developed as a result of studies conducted under the main contractor TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, the EDPOD has successfully passed flight tests against real radar systems and has been included in the inventory of the Turkish Air Force Command.

The F-16 EDPOD is a critical project developed in line with Türkiye's goal of independence in the defense industry and is an indicator of national capacity in electronic warfare technologies. This work, carried out by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, both increases operational effectiveness and provides an important gain in terms of national security. All critical components of EDPOD have been developed by the Advanced Technologies Research Institute (İLTAREN) within TÜBİTAK BİLGEM using national capabilities. As a result, it eliminates the need for similar foreign-made systems, offers superior features compared to its counterparts, and grants strategic competence in the field of electronic warfare.

Technical Specifications

EDPOD is a radar signal detection pod capable of detecting signals emitted by enemy target detection, tracking, missile guidance, and target illumination radars. These signals are defined as environmental threats; the system detects and identifies these threats and is capable of recording them as high-capacity raw data and determining their precise location.

EDPOD, which also plays a critical role in post-mission analysis, can record radar contact information, location data, and signal signals in detail. Thanks to the data sharing infrastructure in the system, the threat information obtained can be shared instantly with other armed forces units through specific data channels. EDPOD enables F-16 aircraft performing missions to act more consciously and effectively against environmental threats by providing electronic support in air operations. Thanks to its pod structure, it can be quickly integrated into aircraft, increasing operational flexibility.
