History and General Information

Timsah Arena is a stadium located in the city of Bursa in Türkiye and is owned by Bursaspor house. Construction began in June 2011 but its opening was delayed due to various setbacks and finally took place on 21 December 2015. It was built to replace Bursa’s previous stadium, Atatürk Stadium. The opening ceremony was held with great ceremony in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The design of the stadium draws inspiration from the “crocodile” symbol of Bursaspor. Its Green roof and exterior architecture evoke the form of a crocodile, particularly through its distinctive crocodile-head-shaped design. Due to this architectural concept, Bursa Timsah Arena was awarded international recognition even while still under construction and won an award in the category of architecture under the International Property Awards.

Location and Transportation

Timsah Arena is situated in the Osmangazi district of Bursa, approximately 5 kilometers northwest of the city center place. It is within walking distance of the Acemler station on the BursaRay metro line, making it easily accessible by metro from the city center.

Technical Specifications

Stadium The stadium was constructed on a total area of 190,000 square meters and features a capacity of approximately 45,000 spectators. It includes a total of 207 special areas, such as VIP seats, business seats, press seats and facilities for people with special needs. The entire stadium is equipped with 90 exits and is designed to be fully evacuated within 8 minute in case of emergency.

Innovative construction techniques were employed, including sliding formwork systems and single-sided formwork climbing systems such as. Additionally, special materials from the Serge Ferrari brand were used on the stadium’s facade and roof.

Opening and Ceremony

The opening of Bursa Timsah Arena was held at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and then Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç. The event featured light and fireworks displays, and artist Fettah Can performed a concert. President Erdoğan kicked off the opening match between the Turkey Legends Team and the Bursa Legends Team performance.
