Asfi Flood Disaster (December 2025)

On December 15, 2025, the city of Asfi on Morocco’s Atlantic coast and various regions of the country were subjected to heavy rainfall and severe storm conditions. As a result of these extraordinary weather conditions, coastal areas experienced flooding and inundation, while inland and elevated regions saw heavy snowfall. These meteorological events caused serious disruptions to transportation, damage to infrastructure, and loss of life across the country.

The city of Asfi, located on the Atlantic coast, was struck by flooding and a severe flood disaster due to intense rainfall. Floodwaters submerged approximately 70 homes and businesses and submerged around 10 vehicles. Schools were closed for three days, and authorities announced the impact of floodwaters on street mobility and infrastructure.

According to statements from Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior and relevant authorities, at least 37 people lost their lives as a result of the floods and severe storms. Many others were injured, and search and rescue operations were launched in various affected regions. Heavy snowfall and floodwaters blocked transportation routes and hindered the efforts of rescue teams.

The extreme weather conditions were not confined to Asfi; significant damage was also caused by rainfall and flooding in other regions such as Tetouan and Tinghir in the north. This widespread geographic impact demonstrated that the disaster was felt nationwide.

Authorities have confirmed that search and rescue operations are ongoing in affected areas, accompanied by a major mobilization to deliver assistance to those impacted. The assessment of flood damage, implementation of safety measures, and evacuation of residents are being carried out by state and local administrations.
