Başpınar Nature Park

Başpınar Nature Park is a nature park covering 3,950 decares, located along the Sorgun Dam road within the boundaries of the Aksu district in Isparta Province, and officially designated as a nature park on 11 July 2011. The entire area is classified as State Forest and stands out as a natural environment featuring mature black pine and juniper forests, clean air, natural valleys, and scenic overlooks.

Location and Access

The nature park is approximately 8 kilometres from the Aksu district centre. Visitors reach the park by following the road toward Zindan Cave, passing through Zindan Cave and trout farms in sequence. The park’s coordinates are 37° 49.930' N 31° 06.533' E, with an elevation of 1,365 metres.

Natural Features

The park area is covered by a forest dominated by mature black pine and juniper trees. It is distinguished by oxygen-rich valleys, clean air, natural landscapes, and expansive viewing points. The region offers suitable conditions for nature walking, photography, wildlife observation, and botanical tours. Initially, the area was used for many years as the “Başpınar Picnic Site” before being granted nature park status in 2011 and placed under protection. Since that date, recreational use plans have been managed by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.

Facilities and Amenities

The nature park includes eight bungalow houses offering accommodation to visitors. In addition, there are walking trails, resting areas, and designated zones suitable for tent camping. Natural water sources within the park boundaries are available for drinking. Sorgun Pond, located within walking distance of Başpınar Nature Park, serves as a natural extension of the park’s landscape. The pond is an important attraction in the region for water sports and photography. Başpınar Nature Park is protected by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, and all activities within the area are carried out in accordance with the institution’s safety and environmental protection measures.

Ecotourism and Usage Potential

The area has high potential for ecotourism. During summer months, it is particularly preferred by visitors from the Antalya region due to its cool climate. The water source within the area creates favorable conditions for nature-based tourism activities such as wildlife observation, botanical tours, and camping.

Hiking and Cycling Trail

The hiking and cycling trail begins in the Aksu centre and passes through Zindan Cave, trout farms, and Başpınar Nature Park before ending at Sorgun Dam. The trail is approximately 9 kilometres long and features no steep inclines. The starting point is the road junction in Kurtuluş Mahallesi, Aksu (37° 47.934' N 31° 04.275' E), and the endpoint is Sorgun Dam (37° 50.236' N 31° 06.078' E).
