Boztepe (Trabzon)

Boztepe is a natural viewing point located southeast of Trabzon city center, approximately 230 meters above sea level. Thanks to this location , it offers the opportunity to panoramically observe the view along the Black Sea coastline, the city center and surrounding residential areas. In clear weather, Akçaabat to the west, Yomra to the east and the line of the sea extending to the horizon can be easily seen. Boztepe is one of the prominent open areas of Trabzon in terms of both geographical dominance and urban landscape .

History

Boztepe's history dates back to ancient times. In historical sources , the region was referred to as "Minthrion Hill". It is thought that this name is related to the Mithras cult, which was widespread in the Roman period . There are various views that the areas on the hill were used for ritual purposes in ancient times. In later periods, Boztepe maintained its importance as an observation point and recreation area in the Byzantine and Ottoman periods . Some fountains and places of pilgrimage that have survived to the present day bear traces of this historical use.
