Demirciler Mansion

Demirciler Konağı is a significant structure belonging to 19th-century Ottoman civil architecture, located in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli Province. The mansion, notable for its historical and architectural features, was constructed during the Ottoman period and is now regarded as part of the cultural heritage. The building, which has been placed under protection, is recognized as one of the original examples of traditional architectural style in the region.

History and Location

The mansion was constructed in 1825 and dates back to the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. It is situated within the boundaries of Demirciler Village in Dilovası district. Land expropriation procedures have been carried out for its preservation, and reconstruction projects have been developed.

Architectural Features

The three-story building was constructed in a contiguous arrangement. The ground floor contains stables, hay storage, and cellars, while the upper floors include four rooms and two sofas. The structure employs a wooden frame construction technique. Access between floors is provided by wooden staircases. The overhanging portion of the upper floor is supported by eliböğründeler. The facades are clad with wooden plank cladding and calligraphic decorations. The front facade features arched window openings adorned with calligraphic decorations featuring floral motifs.

Interior Space and Decorations

In the sofa, a passage from Surah Al-Imran, verse 37 of the Qur’an, has been calligraphically inscribed in the celi sülüs script. The ceilings are made of painted wood, and the floors are covered with wooden paneling. A mihrap is located on the southwest wall. Inside the mihrap there is a recessed cabinet with a lid, decorated with calligraphic ornamentation. Some recessed cabinets were used as bathrooms and storage areas.
