Gümüşhane University

Gümüşhane University is a state university established in 2008 in the province of Gümüşhane in Black Sea Region, Türkiye. Its establishment was realized through Law No. 5662 dated 17 May 2007. University continues its educational and academic activities to contribute to the social and economic development of Gümüşhane.

History

Gümüşhane University became an independent university in 2008, building upon the foundation of the Gümüşhane Faculty of Engineering, which had been established in 1992 under Karadeniz Technical University. The university’s establishment followed policies aimed at expanding higher education across regions. Academic activities commenced in the 2008–2009 academic year at the main campus in Gümüşhane city center.

At its inception, the university began academic life with only a limited number of departments within the Faculty of Engineering. Over time, it expanded by adding various faculties and colleges, integrating numerous academic units that now offer education in health sciences, social sciences, engineering, art and communication, in line with contemporary needs.

Gümüşhane University hosts more than ten faculties, each conducting educational, teaching and research activities in diverse disciplines.

• Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences: Offers departments such as Software Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering and Food Engineering. The faculty is notable for its technical infrastructure and practical training opportunities.
• Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences: Provides programs in Business Administration, Economics, Political Science and Public Administration.
• Faculty of Communication: Aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in communication through departments including Journalism, Radio Television and Cinema, and Public Relations and Advertising.
• Faculty of Health Sciences: Seeks to develop qualified human resources for health services through departments such as Nursing and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.
• Faculty of Theology
• Faculty of Fine Arts
• Faculty of Applied Sciences
• Faculty of Tourism
• Faculty of Pharmacy (Establishment process is ongoing.)

Institutes

Graduate education at Gümüşhane University is conducted through three institutes:

• Graduate School of Education: Offers master’s and doctoral programs in multidisciplinary fields such as social sciences, engineering and health sciences.
• Institute of Natural Sciences (Previously operated independently before merging with the Graduate School of Education.)
• Institute of Social Sciences (Previously operated independently before merging with the Graduate School of Education.)

Several vocational schools affiliated with the university, located in various districts, provide applied education opportunities.

Campus and Infrastructure

The main campus of the university is located in the center of Gümüşhane city. The campus includes faculty buildings, student social areas, library facilities, research laboratories and administrative offices. With its educational buildings and technological infrastructure, it meets the needs of students and academic staff.

In addition, Gümüşhane University supports digitalization initiatives and offers hybrid education models supported by distance learning systems.
