Hudson River Helicopter Crash (2025)

On April 10, 2025, a crash occurred in New York City, United States, when a helicopter plunged into the Hudson River during a sightseeing flight. Six people lost their lives in the accident. Sequence of Events

The helicopter crash occurred at 15:17 local time over the Hudson River, near Hoboken in the state of New Jersey. The Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter had taken off from the Downtown Heliport in southern Manhattan at 14:59; after making a turn near the Freedom Memorial, it flew north along the Hudson River, then changed direction southward near the George Washington Bridge. It is reported that after this maneuver, the helicopter lost control and struck the water upside down.

Witnesses stated that the helicopter broke apart in midair and entered a rapid descent. Footage shows the helicopter rotating downward before impacting the river in that position head.

Technical Details of the Helicopter

The helicopter involved in the crash was a 2004 model Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV. Its airworthiness certificate, issued in 2016, remained valid until 2029. The flight was operated by New York Helicopter Charter Inc. The flight path followed the standard tourist route along the Manhattan shoreline.

At the time of the crash, the weather was partly cloudy, and wind speeds were reported to range between 15 and 25 mile. The Opinion distance was recorded at approximately 10 miles. The total flight duration was approximately 16 minute.

New York Municipality Mayor Eric Adams stated that those killed in the crash were a family from Spain and the pilot.
