İskilip Tokmaklı Kağnı

The İskilip Tokmaklı Kağnı is a traditional wooden toy cart unique to the İskilip district of Çorum. It was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office on 3 August 2023 and granted geographical indication status. This kağnı has been officially registered by the İskilip Municipality and holds a significant place in the region’s cultural and economic heritage.

The İskilip Tokmaklı Kağnı is decorated with simple and non-complex motifs using colors such as red, yellow, blue, black, and green. The body panels of the kağnı are polished using processed bark of the poplar tree to achieve an aesthetic appearance. During production, the components of the kağnı are carefully assembled. Axles are placed on wooden blocks and attached to the foot piece along with mazlar. Wheels are fixed to the axles, followed by the addition of the shaft or other components. Tokmaklar play a crucial role in the placement of the blocks and produce a distinctive sound when the kağnı is in motion.
