Knight's Island

Knight’s Island is an island located in the Fethiye district of Türkiye’s Muğla province, covering an area of place and attracting attention with its historical ruins, natural beauty, and tranquil atmosphere. Situated in the Fethiye Gulf at a very close position from the coast, the island derives its name from the Knights of the Middle Era who were influential in the region during that period.

The island’s history extends back to the Lycian period. Used in antiquity as one of the defensive outposts of Telmessos (modern-day Fethiye), the island became a strategic base during the period of the Knights of Rhodes’ presence in the region. The Knights constructed defensive structures on the island and used it as a police station to protect the area from pirate attacks.

With the Ottoman Empire’s conquest of the region, the island passed out of the Knights’ control. Today, remnants from the Lycian and Byzantine periods, as well as traces believed to belong to the Knights of Rhodes, remain on the island.

Access to the island is possible only by sea. Special boats and small motorboats depart from Fethiye and reach the island in short minutes. A journey of approximately 5 to 10 minutes by boat from Fethiye Harbour brings visitors to the island.
