Korugöl (Kurugöl) Nature Park

Korugöl Nature Park (formerly known as Kurugöl Nature Park) is a protected area located within the boundaries of Kaynaşlı district in Düzce Province, featuring a combined forest and lake ecosystem. The area was initially designated as a recreational site in 2004, granted nature park status in 2011, and renamed “Korugöl” in 2021.

Geographical Location and Access

Korugöl Nature Park is approximately 6 kilometres from the Kaynaşlı district centre and 14 kilometres from the city centre of Düzce. Access to the park is provided via roads branching off from the D-100 highway. The nearest motorway exit is the Kaynaşlı toll booth, located about 7 kilometres away, while the Düzce TEM exit is approximately 23 kilometres distant. The access route passes through Üçköprü village.

Status and Area Size

Korugöl was designated as a recreational site in 2004 and achieved nature park status in 2011. A 2021 update changed its name to “Korugöl” and expanded its area from 21.95 hectares to 30.78 hectares. Within the park boundaries lies a lake covering 4.87 hectares. The lake is fed by natural sources and integrated with surrounding forest vegetation, creating conditions conducive to the formation of diverse microhabitats.

Natural Structure and Ecosystem Characteristics

Korugöl Nature Park lies within the Black Sea climate zone and features a rich forest cover. Naturally occurring tree species in the area include beech, oak, and hornbeam. In addition to forested areas, open spaces around the lake and riparian habitats provide living environments for various plant species. The lake is connected to a small stream, with water flow carefully regulated.

Uses and Recreational Activities

Korugöl Nature Park is visited for a variety of nature-based recreational activities. The following activities are permitted within the park:

• Hiking: Trails with varying gradients are available around the park perimeter.
• Camping: Individual camping is permitted in designated areas.
• Photography: The lake and forest landscapes are ideal for photo-safari activities.
• Recreational angling: The lake is open to amateur fishing with rods.
• Cycling: Certain flat paths are suitable for bicycle use.

The park has no permanent social facilities; visitors use the area with their own equipment.

Management and Conservation Status

Korugöl Nature Park is managed under the authority and supervision of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. All uses and activities within the park boundaries are conducted in accordance with specific regulations. Visitors must avoid causing harm to the natural environment, refrain from interfering with flora and fauna, and exercise caution regarding any fire-related activities.
