Mert Günok is a Turkish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Throughout his career, he has worn jerseys in top-tier league competitions in Türkiye, held long-term positions at various clubs, and been part of multiple age-group squads of the national team. His football journey has developed continuously from youth academies to the professional level.
His full name is Fehmi Mert Günok. He has played as a goalkeeper and is right-footed. He stands 1.96 meters tall. His command of the penalty area, positioning within the box, and role in defensive organization have been central to his career.
He was born on 1 March 1989 in Karabük. He was born in Istanbul in 1989. Due to his family’s professional circumstances, he spent his childhood and youth years in Istanbul.

His father is Mahir Günok, who had a professional career as a goalkeeper and later became a coach after retiring from playing. His mother’s name is Necmiye Günok. He has a sister named Merve Günok, who was involved in volleyball. It is known that his birth coincided with the period when his father was actively playing for Karabükspor.
He pursued his education in Istanbul. He studied physical education at Marmara University, balancing his university studies with his professional football career.
He began playing football at an early age. At nine years old in 1998, he joined the Fenerbahçe youth academy. This period shaped the foundation of his goalkeeping education.
He played for many years in the Fenerbahçe youth system. He regularly participated in age-group teams and developed within the club’s academy structure. In the 2007–2008 season, he was promoted to the senior squad. During the same period, he also played for Fenerbahçe PAF/A2 team.
During his time in the Fenerbahçe senior squad, he was part of the goalkeeping rotation. Intense competition for the starting position arose due to the presence of experienced goalkeepers. After Volkan Babacan’s departure, he rose to the position of second-choice goalkeeper behind Volkan Demirel. He stepped in to play for the senior team during injuries and suspensions.
He made his first appearance in a Fenerbahçe jersey on 18 January 2011 in the Turkish Cup against Antalyaspor, starting in the starting eleven. The match ended 4–3.
In the 2008–2009 season, he was loaned to Kayserispor. During this period, he regularly played at the Süper Lig level and gained valuable match experience.
After his contract with Fenerbahçe ended, he transferred to Bursaspor on 22 June 2015. He spent two seasons wearing the Bursaspor jersey, serving as part of the goalkeeping rotation within the squad.
On 31 July 2017, he signed a four-year contract with İstanbul Başakşehir. In his first season, he served as a backup goalkeeper, later assuming the role of first-choice goalkeeper in subsequent seasons. During this time, he guarded the net in both league and European cup matches for the team.
On 15 August 2021, he transferred from İstanbul Başakşehir to Beşiktaş. He played as a goalkeeper for Beşiktaş. On 30 July 2023, he extended his contract until 2026. His contract expired on 6 January 2026.
He regularly represented Türkiye’s youth national teams. He played for the U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21 squads.

He was first called up to the Türkiye A National Team during the 2012–2013 season. He made a total of 37 appearances for the A National Team, guarding the net in international tournament qualifiers and friendly matches.
His reflexes, positioning, interventions within the penalty area, and timing in aerial duels formed the core elements of his playing profile. His participation in play with his feet, preference for short and long passes, and contributions to building attacks from the back were key aspects of his game. He maintained a calm demeanor during matches.
On 20 February 2015, he proposed to Aslı Dalgalıdere. They married on 28 December 2015 at the Istanbul Four Seasons Hotel. In 2019, they welcomed a daughter named Ala Günok.
Beyond his football career, he has maintained a presence in public life through social media. He has shown interest in coaching and football education as he looks toward the next phases of his professional life.
