National Anthem of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s current national anthem, in use since 2006, is titled “Menıñ Qazaqstanym” (My Kazakhstan).

Following Kazakhstan’s attainment of independence in 1991, there arose a need for a new national anthem free from its Soviet past, and a competition was held to select one. The winning entry was a text jointly submitted by renowned poets Muzafar Alimbayev, Kadır Mırzaliyev, Tumanbat Moldagaliyev, and Jadıra Daribayeva.

However, the anthem in use since 1992 was replaced in 2006 due to heightened sensitivity toward national symbols. The chosen text for the new anthem was “Benim Kazakistan’ım” (My Kazakhstan), composed by Jumeken Nejimedenov, widely known among the public as a “patriotic poet.” Additions were made to this text by Kazakhstan’s then President Nursultan Nazarbayev, giving the anthem its final form.

The Kazakh-language lyrics of the national anthem are as follows:

Altın kün aspanı,

Altın dän dalası,

Erliktiñ dastanı,

Elime qaraşı!

Ejelden er degen,

Dañqımız şıqtı ğoy,

Namısın bermegen,

Qazağım mıqtı ğoy! 

Meniñ elim, meniñ elim,

Güliñ bolıp egilemin,

Jırıñ bolıp tögilemin, elim!

Tugan jerim meniñ Qazaqstanım! 

Urpaqqa jol aşqan,

Keñ baytaq jerim bar.

Birligi jarasqan,

Täwelsiz elim bar.

Qarsı alğan waqıttı,

Mäñgilik dosınday.

Bizdiñ el baqıttı,

The Turkish translation of the lyrics is as follows:

Golden sun’s radiance,

Golden ear of grain steppe,

The epic of heroism,

Look upon my homeland!

Since ancient times called brave,

Our honor has risen,

Who never surrendered their dignity,

My Kazakh is strong! 

My land, my land,

I shall plant you as a rose,

I shall pour you as a song, my land!

My homeland is my Kazakhstan! 

Opening paths to generations,

I have a vast land,

With unity strengthened,

I have an independent state.

Meeting its time with steadfastness,

Like an eternal friend,

Our homeland is joyful,
