Old Doğanbey Village

Old Doğanbey Village is located within the boundaries of the Söke district in Aydın Province, Türkiye. It is situated on the southeastern slope of the Dilek Peninsula–Great Menderes Delta National Park. The village is approximately 30 kilometers from the Söke district center by road.

The village was historically known as “Domatia.” As a result of the 1923 population exchange between Türkiye and Greece, the Greek population of the settlement migrated to Greece, and Turkish families from the Thessaloniki and Kavala regions resettled in the village. Over time, a second settlement emerged in the lower areas of the village, named “New Doğanbey.” Structures abandoned in the original settlement area have been restored since the 2000s through initiatives by various institutions and individuals.

The settlement features traditional Aegean-style houses constructed with stone. Buildings are typically one or two stories high. Streets are narrow and paved with stone, following the natural topography. Some structures have been restored while preserving their original form.

Old Doğanbey Village is located on the southeastern side of the Dilek Mountains, near the western boundary of the Menderes Delta. Due to its location within the national park boundaries, the surrounding area is rich in natural vegetation, including maquis shrubland, pine forests, and olive groves. The region also provides habitat for various wild animals and bird species.

Access to the village is via road from the Söke district center. Travel time by private vehicle from the district center ranges between 60 and 70 minutes. The route passes through olive groves and forested areas.

Old Doğanbey Village is visited as part of the Dilek Peninsula–Great Menderes Delta National Park. Some of the restored structures have been repurposed for new uses. The area attracts visitors due to its nature walking trails and cultural heritage elements.
