Palovit Falls

Palovit Waterfall is located within the boundaries of Çamlıhemşin district in Rize province, in Türkiye’s Black Sea Region, and lies inside the Kaçkar Mountains National Park. The waterfall is approximately 19 kilometers from the district center and is situated near other natural attractions in the region, including Zilkale. Access to the waterfall, which is located within the Palovit Valley, is possible by vehicle from Çamlıhemşin town center; the road leading to the area is stabilized and passes through forested terrain.

Palovit Waterfall is a single-step waterfall with a height of approximately 15 meters. Due to the high annual precipitation in the region, its flow rate is higher than that of many other Black Sea waterfalls. The waterfall, situated on the Palovit Creek, reflects the characteristic hydrological and morphological structure of the valley, surrounded by dense forest cover and steep slopes. The stream flows rapidly down the slope, forming a small pool at the base of the waterfall.

Palovit Waterfall lies within the boundaries of Kaçkar Mountains National Park, which was established in 1994. This status ensures the protection of the area’s biological diversity, water resources, and ecological integrity. The national park designation aims to limit human activities and prevent actions that could harm the natural environment. The area surrounding the waterfall is covered by forested land and typical Black Sea vegetation.

Palovit Waterfall has become an important destination for nature enthusiasts and travelers visiting Kaçkar Mountains National Park, due to its natural landscape and accessibility. Its location along the same route as Zilkale contributes to regional tourism integration. However, apart from general promotional materials, there is limited information available regarding the cultural history or traditional uses of the site.

Palovit Waterfall is a significant water resource among Rize’s natural assets and is protected due to its location within Kaçkar Mountains National Park. Its high flow rate, distinctive landscape character, and forest ecosystem contribute to the region’s natural diversity. While serving as a functional stop in regional tourism, the waterfall largely preserves its natural integrity due to its remote location, free from development and mass use. In this regard, Palovit Waterfall can be regarded as an example of a natural area where a balance between sustainable use and conservation has been achieved.
