Tahir Pasha Mansion Museum House

Tahir Paşa Konağı is located in Şükrüçavuş Mahallesi, one of the historically significant neighborhoods of Mudanya, a district of Bursa province. The mansion is regarded as one of the finest original examples of 18th-century Ottoman architecture and holds great importance both architecturally and culturally. As a historic structure, it serves as a vital cultural and tourism center, reflecting the lifestyle and culture of the Ottoman period for both the people of Mudanya and visitors. The building, consisting of a ground floor and one upper story, successfully preserves the elegant architectural lines and decorative arts characteristic of the Tulip Era.

The construction of the mansion dates back to 1724, during the Tulip Era of the Ottoman Empire. It is recognized as one of the distinguished examples of 18th-century Ottoman architecture. In 1985, it was nationalized by the Ministry of Culture and underwent a comprehensive restoration with the contributions of Agâh Bursalı. After restoration, the ground floor of the mansion was used for many years as a public library. In 2012, the building was transferred to the Mudanya Municipality and opened to the public as a museum house on 5 July 2013.

The building, comprising a ground floor and one upper story, reflects the typical architectural and decorative style of the Tulip Era. One of the mansion’s key architectural elements is the penwork decoration on the walls and ceiling of the Baş Oda on the second floor. These decorations, adorned with floral motifs and reliefs, are regarded by experts as rare masterpieces. The interior layout and craftsmanship of the mansion, which consists of a total of 18 rooms, reflect the artistic tastes and wealth of the period.

The museum house displays historical artifacts belonging to Tahir Paşa and his family. The collection includes;

• Penwork decorations from the Tulip Era,
• Furniture brought from France and preserved for a long time in Bursa,
• Rosewood chairs with floral inlays,
• Everyday and ceremonial garments of Tahir Paşa,
• A Circassian cloak gifted by Sheikh Şamil,
• A handcrafted embossed silver-mounted watch,

In addition, historical photographs of Mudanya sourced from the Cüneyt Pekman Archive, as well as dedicated corners for the Girit Odaları and the Mudanya Bandosu, are presented to visitors.

Tahir Paşa Konağı is a museum house that preserves the lifestyle culture of the Ottoman period and the artistic characteristics of the Tulip Era for the present day. The mansion contributes significantly to the historical and cultural tourism of Mudanya and offers visitors the opportunity to experience Ottoman domestic life. It attracts both domestic and international tourists and is also used for cultural events and exhibitions.

One of the key processes that enabled the mansion to survive to the present day is the restoration work initiated in 1985. Nationalized by the Ministry of Culture, the building was repaired under the leadership of Agâh Bursalı in a manner faithful to its original form. Thanks to this restoration, both its architectural integrity was preserved and its historical values were made accessible to future generations. Today, regular maintenance and conservation activities are carried out by the Mudanya Municipality.
